Terri Leone

MDiv, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, and Domestic Violence survivor

Tia May is truly an inspiration. Her passion for helping those suffering from domestic violence is rooted in her own experience and intimate understanding of what victims endure.  Not only is she a survivor, she is a powerfully committed advocate whose strength and resilience is evident in all that she does. I have witnessed her in action -- teaching, preaching, sharing her story, counseling and resourcing victims. She is an author, a radio show / podcast host, and founder of a non-profit whose purpose is to provide financial assistance for domestic violence victims in need.  Tia understands that lack of financial resources is a need that is not met by local domestic violence agencies, and is often a barrier to victims leaving abusive partners. As a fellow survivor and advocate, I have served with Tia on committees, and I've been on the receiving end of her wise counsel.  She is devoted to serving those harmed by domestic violence with integrity and love.

Erin Mitchell

As a former board member of Rise Out of the Ashes, I watched Tia create an organization and provide critical financial support to domestic violence survivors transitioning into safety, all while working full time and pursuing graduate studies to deepen her expertise in the field. She's a fierce advocate who runs toward the complex challenges others avoid. I've never known anyone more dedicated to the hard, continuous work of learning and growing so she can serve others at the deepest level. Tia's commitment and integrity are unmatched, and I would trust her with anything, especially what I care about most.

Dawn Harkins

Tia is a force for all that is good, just, and right in a world that rewards those who seek to harm others.

Her warrior spirit and humble heart are seen as she uses her voice and her time to provide resources, extend support, and encourage those who have experienced IPV.  She is on the frontlines fighting and making a way for those coming behind her to stand for what is just and right. (It is a privilege to call her a sister and friend.)

Nicole Tillman

Tia is a dynamic leader who is a combination of fierce boldness, strength, and compassion for all who have been victimized or have suffered injustice.  I have witnessed the powerful impact of her personal story of triumph and journey to healing for herself and others, and how her organization, resources, and platform have helped victims and survivors of domestic violence to recover and rebuild their lives.   She is committed to educate and bring public awareness to the issues that people from all walks of life can face, that are seldom talked about because of the sensitivity of the subject matter. But it is for those reasons that voices like Tia's are necessary to break through the silence as she champions on behalf of those who need it the most!
